We constructed a class of four-zigzag-edged parallelogram-shaped cutting graphenes as scattering region, forming an angle of 60 with electrodes. Based on the first-principles transport calculations, we have illustrated that this system has perfect spin filtering effect, which arises from hybrid spin states in occupied orbitals and bias-induced spin reversal in one of zigzag edges connecting to the electrodes. The spin filtering effect is reinforced with increasing the length of scattering region below a critical value, beyond which the effect may disappear. Fortunately, curling the cutting graphenes into three-dimensional helical structures can maintain the desirable transport properties in a much larger critical size. The recently synthesized borophene with 1/6 concentration of hollow hexagons (HH) is shown to have in-plane modulus C up to 210 N/m and bending stiffness as low as D = 0.39 eV. Thus, its Foppl-von Karman number per unit area, defined as C/D, reaches 568 nm-2, over twofold higher than graphene's value, establishing the borophene as one of the most flexible materials. Yet, the borophene has a specific modulus of 346 m2/s2 and ideal strengths of 16 N/m, rivaling those (453 m2/s2 and 34 N/m) of graphene. In particular, its structural fluxionality enabled by delocalized multi-center chemical bonding favors structural phase transitions under tension, which result in exceptionally small breaking strains yet highly ductile breaking behavior. These mechanical properties can be further tailored by varying the HH concentration, and the boron sheet without HHs can even be stiffer than graphene against tension. Free vibration test combining with theoretical analysis and numerical simulation was carried out to reveal the vibration responses and estimate the modulus of the winding laminate. Uniaxial compression test was performed to reveal the strength and failure mode. Without end flanges, laminate delamination at the end controls the peak load. Deamination of skins induces interfacial debonding and dimpling of inner skin finally. An engineering method based on the average strain at the peak load is proposed to predict the load capacity of the cylinder. Compared with stiffened cylinder, the orthogrid sandwich cylinder is stiffer and stronger. Due to the abundant resources and low cost, silica (SiO2), especially the amorphous one, has attracted a lot of interests on the application of anode materials for LIBs. However, SiO2 still suffer from the poor cycling performance mainly caused by the huge volume change during cycling like other alloy-type materials. Furthermore, it remains a challenge to fabricate the SiO2 based flexible electrode. Herein, we propose a facile in situ strategy to fabricate the electrospun robust free-standing SiO2/carbon nanofibers (denoted as in-SCNFs) film constructed by N-doped carbon nanofibers encapsulating uniformly amorphous SiO2 nanoparticles. The in situ synthesized finer SiO2 nanoparticles in the in-SCNFs are uniformly encapsulated in flexible carbon nanofibers, which can effectively buffer the volume change. Furthermore, the robust in-SCNFs film possesses t< he excellent mechanical flexibility and strength. So, when served as the free-standing anode of LIBs, the in-SCNFs film exhibits superior cycling performance. A discharge specific capacity of 405 mAh/g can be delivered even after a long-term 1000 cycles at a large current density of 500 mA/g, and the retention is up to 115%. It is an exciting finding that the in-SCNFs film is also a long-life anode of Na-ion batteries (NIBs). The 99% of initial capacity can be kept after 250 cycles at 500 mA/g. To our best knowledge, this is the first report on the application of SiO2/C composite for NIBs. In this synthesis, the NF is applied as Ni resource of NiCo2O4 without adding other Ni-included reagent, and the pH value plays an important role for the synthesis of NiCo2O4 HNAs/NF. Furthermore, the reasonable reaction mechanism of NiCo2O4 HNAs/NF is in detail discussed and proposed. The as-synthesized NiCo2O4 HNAs/NF possesses the unique structural advantages, such as large surface area, hierarchical porous structures and robust connection of NFs and NiCo2O4 active materials. Here, it is shown that the water contact angle of freshly grown h-BN film is nearly independent of the underlying materials as well as the h-BN layer number, but increases gradually to a saturated stable value in air due to the spontaneous adsorption of airborne hydrocarbon. First-principles calculations and molecular interaction modeling confirm that a monolayer h-BN coating does efficiently tune the interaction of a water molecule with different substrates to a converging level.
